The Typical Tan Family Party

"shayna jie!" Colby cried out as he ran through the guests and into the arms of Shayna.
"hey Colby. Nice to see you again. How have you been?" Colby replied with a firm nod. It was really nice to see him again, all happy and energetic like what a normal boy would be instead of a sick child.
Then two figured walked up towards Shayna. She looked up and there they were... the Tan family.

"you must be Shayna," Mrs Tan said with her smile.
"yeah, I guess the whole world knew that when Colby shouted my name through the hall," shayna replied with a smile.
"I'm so pleased to finally meet the girl that made my son so happy and cheerful during his stay at the hospital," Mr. Tan continued, shaking Shayna's hand.
"it's no problem Mr and Mrs Tan. Colby's a very bubbly boy. No illness would keep him down."
"well, we really appreciate your concern for Colby. Make yourself at home. It's our token of appreciation for what you have done for us," Mrs. Tan said.
"I will. Thank you." Shayna replied.
"sorry. We have to attend to some clients now. Just enjoy yourself." Mr. Tan said, pulling his wife away and towards some men huddling around the buffet table.

"Shayna jie, play with me? I"m bored," Colby complained.
"alright. What do you wanna play?"
"can we go kick some soccer? I brought the soccer ball you gave me secretly. My mother didn't allow me to bring it here."
"ok. Let's go to that field over there to play alright?" Colby smiled cheekily.
"I'll go get my ball!" he cheered and ran to get the ball. Shayna watched as she realized this gathering really isn't some party for Colby but it's just another way of Mr and Mrs Tan's way of creating connections for the business. Some party it was.

"hey. Don't mind my parents. They always do this." she heard a familiar voice said. She turned around and there he was... colin.
"yeah. They always organize parties for the worst reasons but in the end it’s all about work. Colby's just the company's little mascot." Colin continued.
"what? Colby's just a business strategy?!" shayna gasped in horror.
"no... what I meant was that my parents are very proud of the family. Family gatherings are always about business too. With an image of being able to balance family life and still have a very successful business, gives clients security in us. It's like 'hey look at us, we can even have kids while being in business. We are THAT successful.' My parents are quite proud of Colby and I actually." colin said with a beaming smile.
"oh." Shayna replied. As though she was really interested in his family life. "I'm sorry but I really have to get going."
"where to?"
"play soccer with your brother."
"can I come too?" argh. When will he ever quit? She was also too lazy to reject him also. So both of them ended up playing soccer together.
