Big Brother Duties

After work, Colin started to pack up to return home and rest. He had not been resting properly and his eye bags were showing. He needs to go home and sleep. Somehow his work has helped him get over the fact that he and Shayna needs space to develop their careers before having anything to do with their relationship. After he has made his father proud in the job, then maybe he would think of settling down. That will be the best time when he and Shayna start off again.

Just as he was about to step out of his office, he saw his father walking towards him. It was nearly seven in the evening. Why was his father still in the office? Shouldn't he be at home and having dinner with his mother and brother?

"Dad? Why are you still here?" Colin asked.
"Oh I needed you to look through these brochures. Your mother and I are thinking of finally sending Colby to a normal school. Since his health has improved, he needs to start learning like normal children. As his brother, maybe you can suggest somewhere good," Mr. Tan said, passing Colin a stack of brochures.
"Wow. I'm glad. Don't worry. I will talk to Colby about what school he would like to go to and then suggest somewhere you and mother can send him to," Colin said.
"Thanks son. You have been a great help not only at work but also at home. Are you off to see your girlfriend?" Mr. Tan asked, "Is she that same girl you brought to the party at the club the other time?"
Colin smiled, "She's not my girlfriend, dad. She was but we are separated for a while to focus on our work first. She's a counsellor at the hospital Colby goes to for his treatment. Her name is Shayna Fong."
"That is good to hear. She seems to be a very good influence upon you. You have changed so much for the better. I can still remember the times I have to chide you when you forgotten to attend to our important clients because you would go out gallivanting the night before. Look at you now. My company's pride and joy," Mr. Tan said, placing his hands on Colin's arms.
"Thanks dad. I'll come home for dinner soon. Meanwhile I should get on home to rest. You better go home or mom will be the one chiding you," Colin said, smiling.

As Colin sat in the car, he thought about what he father had said. It was true. He had changed since the day he met Shayna. She had turned his world around for the better. Somehow everything seems to tell him that Shayna was meant to be in his life... and he planned for her to stay in it forever.

Megan flipped through newspaper after newspaper to find the perfect home. She needed a decent apartment fast. If not, she would have to resort to calling her parents to adopt her back into their house. She did not want to tell them that she has broken off with Colin just yet. Maybe she would fine someone soon and then cover up for whatever Colin has ruined in her life. Now, finding a cheap and decent apartment was her main priority.

As she flipped the newspaper, she finally found an apartment that had a very familiar road name. It was the street that Colin lived in! The apartment was situated in the condominium right opposite Colin's block! This was great. She knew Colin's area like the back of her hand and living just opposite him may cause things to happen between them again. If Zoe's private eye was right, Colin should be single right now and not with any other girl, not even Shayna as she thought it would be. To think of it, Megan was very amazed that Shayna and Colin didn’t get it on together after they broke up.

This was the perfect apartment for Megan. She quickly picked up her phone and dialled the agent. She had to get that apartment and fast.

Meanwhile, Colin was home alone, listening to his favourite music and having a cup of coffee while surfing the net. He was looking through different school websites to learn more about the schools that Colby might choose. All the schools look perfect for Colby. They had a great curriculum and co-curricula activities that Colby would love to join. Some schools even have soccer clubs that Colin knew Colby would love.

He quickly picked up the phone to call Colby who was at home. His mother picked up the phone.
"Hi mom. How are you?"
"I'm fine Colin. Why haven't you been home for ages? I miss you dear," Mrs. Tan said.
"I miss you all too mother. I will be back soon for dinner. You take care of your health alright? Can I talk to Colby please?"
His mother called Colby and Colin could hear Colby’s cheerful laughter when he knew his brother had called him.

"Kor!" Colby said sweetly through the phone.
"Colby, how are you today?"
"I'm good kor. When are you going to bring me out to play again?"
"All you think about is play. When are you going to start saying you want to go to school?"
"I do want to go to school kor. Dad is looking for me," Colby answered.
"What school would you like to go to?"
"I would like to go to a normal school where I get to wear a nice uniform and play soccer. I want to learn how to spell and write my own books. I want to make new friends and teach them to play soccer with me," Colby answered, his voice full of hope and expectation. A definite trait of the Tan family.
"Kor will bring you to see some schools on Wednesday after your appointment with Dr. Chong ok?"
"Ok! Will you ask Shayna jie along too? I want her to see my school," Colby asked.
"I will ask her but she is busy with her own work, Colby. I will try but no promises," Colin answered.
"Alright. Can I go read my story book now?"
"Yes you can. I'll see you on Wednesday squirt. Does daddy or mommy want to talk to me?" Colin asked.
"They are busy with work. Mommy asks you to drink more water because the weather is hot," Colby answered, "Oh and they say they love you. I love you more you know."
"Yes I know Colby. I love you all too. Have an early night. See you Wednesday," Colin said before placing the phone down.

His family was indeed a busy one with all the business issues included. Though they had a multi million dollar business and they were doing very well. As a family, they were balancing alright too. If Colin were to marry, his wife would have to be able to help out in the family, either in the business or family side. Colin knew Shayna would definitely be a great help with Colby and his family. She would just get on perfectly with his parents and especially his brother.

He smiled to himself while sitting in front of the computer and daydreaming about Shayna being his wife. It would be just perfect. Finally, in the midst of his dreaming, he fell asleep in front of the computer.
