Shayna & The New Boy On The Block

"come ryan. you have to eat something if not you are not going to be better," shayna said, lifting the spoon towards ryan's mouth.
"i don't want it! it taste yucky! i want to eat pizza and fries!" ryan complained.
"if you do not get better, how can you eat pizza and fries? shayna jie promise you when you get better i will bring you some fries and pizza."
"no i want it now!" ryan said, throwing a pillow across the room.
"ryan, please. i know. let's add some of your favourite marshmellows into your food and you can eat it like your favourite marshmellow cereal!" shayna said, sprinkling some marshmellow on top of ryan's lunch. he watched it as though magic was about to happen to his food. finally as shayna lifted the spoon to his mouth, ryan took a bite.
"does it taste better?" shayna asked.
"at least i can taste the marshmellows," ryan said, smiling. he managed to eat at least three quarters of it. a vast improvement from the other times.

as katy came in to clear the plates, she saw ryan had eaten most of his food.
"wow shayna. you indeed have something with kids. you are just so good at it," she said, "I couldn't even get ryan to eat a mouthful of his lunch."
"it all comes with patience, katy. kids loved to have your fullest attention and they must know that you are going to love them and not hurt them. that is important to helping these kids know what is good for them and what is not," shayna said.
"well, whatever it is. i'm sure glad you are around," katy said, smiling to shayna.
"it's my job," shayna smiled back before she said goodbye to ryan before walking out of the ward.

shayna yawned and gave herself a stretch before walking towards the next ward to see the other children. though she felt a little tired, her job was indeed very satisfying. to know that the children are getting healthier and they can lead normals lives instead of being cooped up in wards all day without enjoying their childhood properly. she remembed when she was a child, everything was just heavenly. her parents doted on her, she could play with her friends and neighbours everyday, carefree and happy. but these children due to illness have to go in and out of hospitals and suffer a life that they never thought possible at such a young age. it was her duty to bring them hope and a touch of what they were missing in their lives from normal children.

"shayna!" she heard someone call. as she turned she saw miss soong and a young doctor walking towards her. she stopped to turn in their direction and smiled.
"good morning miss soong," shayna said and when she turned to the young doctor, she realised he looked vastly familiar. something about him... he was definitely someone she knew but where? she quickly went through her dictionary of names but before she could come up with his name he smiled at her and said, "shay?"

no one called shyana that except... she finally beamed and replied, "timmy! it's so good to see you!" they hugged in the middle of the paediatric wards.
"looks like i need not do introductions," miss soong said.
"sorry miss soong. he was my college mate and my buddy.
"alright. then i would leave you two to catch up. meanwhile let me go check on some children," she said and turned to leave shayna and the young doctor alone.

"timmy! god it's been long!" shayna said, walking with the young doctor back down to the staff lounge, "and you're a paediatrician now? where have you been all these while?"
"well, for starts youc an start calling me Dr.Timothy Leong instead of timmy," he chuckled, "i was studying medicine in London for a few years and i decided to come back and serve in the healthcare here instead of london. i miss home too you know."
"that's great. i'm glad you're around. at least there is someone that i can talk to again," shayna said as timothy pushed hte door open for her.
"so what has been up in your life, shay?" he asked.
"well, i'm a paediatric counsellor here and i love my job. that's about it. nothing interesting," she replied as she passed him a cup of coffee.
"no boyfriends?" timothy asked, raising an eyebrow.
"nope. why? do you imagine me to be married with kids now?" shayna laughed.
"i was thinking more of a lucky man's girlfriend or wife," timothy replied.
"please timmy. you know me. always getting into trouble and running around doing crazy stuff. which guy would want me?"
"that i dare not say. you've always been a hot favourite among college boys. you know that," he said.
"that was ages ago. now i'm a different person already."
"but i hope the funloving, sweet, caring college girl i know still lives in you," timothy replied, sipping on the coffee.
"we'll see. we'd catch up soon. i have to get back to work. it's great to have you on board timmy," shayna said, reaching out her hand for a nice handshake.
"it's great being here too. maybe we'd have dinner maybe tomorrow after work?" he asked, shaking her hand. shayna thought for a while and decided it was no harm having dinner with her old friend.
"alright. we'll meet up for dinner tomorrow. have a great day ahead timmy," she said.

as shayna walked out of the lounge, she smiled to herself. though timothy was her best buddy. she did remember having a crush on him. he was the perfect college guy. a councillor, an ace student, a great soccer player and a good friend. timothy taught her to fall in love with soccer and helped her with her studies. they claim that they were just friends at college but everyone thought otherwise. it was hard not to like timothy. he had strong features crafted onto his face and when he smiles, he lights up the whole room. he always got the attention of the girls not only in their college but also every other college in town. however, he never got distracted by girls, except twice in his whole college exsistance, and always reached for what he wanted.

shayna didn't have the chance to ask if he was attached. maybe he was, maybe not.
a great looking man like him would definitely be taken she pondered to herself.
at least she was still friends with her good ol timmy leong.
