Friends or Foes?

megan sat in the house thinking of something to do while Zoe went out with Mark for a while. she was dead bored. she still had to go to the pub with Zoe later on. no matte rhow much she doesn't want to go she still has to. her best friend is doing something good for her and she should appreciate that.

megan ruummaged around the house to find something to do. she pulled out tons of magazines to read and turned on the television practically the whole 24 hours. still she was in need for something to do. as she flipped through a magazine, a brown envelope fell out of one of them. megan picked it up and it read 'private and confidential' in the front. but what the heck, Zoe had nothing to hide.

megan pulled out the contents of the envelope and realised that it contains pictures and information about colin. she gasped as she flipped through the pictures. they had pictures of colin in meetings, colin having a meal with tyler and what looks like tyler's new girlfriend, others showed colin hanging out with his brother and his parents. megan pulled out the documents and realised that Zoe had hired a private eye to tail colin for a whole week! she was amazed that they didn't catch him with shayna. maybe he wasn't even with her at all. maybe megan got dumped by colin not because of another women but some decent reason like they really could not get along with each other.

just then the door opened and megan looked up. mark and zoe had just returned from their time alone with each other. they were initially laughing and teasing until zoe saw what megan had in her hands.
"god megan! where did you get that?" zoe asked.
"why did you hire a private eye to tail colin? why?" megan asked, sounding very hurt.
"i wanted to find out who he was going with after breaking up with you. i wanted to fend for you meg," zoe tried to explain.
"i don't need you to stoop so low to find out these things for me. so what if colin is going out with another girl or not? he would never take me back and it's MY business not YOURS!" megan said.

"meg. you have just been dumped by the flirt of the year! don't you think i should do something about it?" zoe asked.
"this is not what i expect you to do zoe. you are just making things worse and colin is none of your business!" megan said, flinging the pictures with her right hand. mark and zoe just gasped when she did that.

"you know what meg? fine! forget it! i try to help and this is the thanks i get. i'll wash my hands off your problems!" zoe shouted back as she strudged back to her own room and slammed the door. mark just looked at both women and sighed before retreating to the kitchen. megan started to cry and buried her face in both her palms.

both of them didn't go to the club that night. zoe just kept herself in the room while mark went out with his guy friends. megan just sat down on her bed and thought about moving out. maybe she should find herself an apartment of her own and not impose on her friend. she quickly packed some of her stuff and then left a goodbye note for zoe.

she needed to find a new single life for her own. and not let someone else make it for her.

shayna walked into her office the next morning, smiling to herself. she sat down on her desk and started to do her final few paperwork. she looked into her mug. she needed her morning dose of caffine and stood up to go to the staff pantry.

"morning everyone," shayna said, smiling.
"good morning shayna. you look happy today. did colin do something nice for you?" one of the nurses, katy asked.
"colin and i are just friends," shayna corrected.
"that is not what i have heard. everyone in the ward says that both of you are an item. a hot item to be exact," katy replied.
"please. stop spreading this around! colin and i are nothing but friends. honest. besides, the only love i have is for my work and my family."
"are you sure?" katy asked.
"yes. we're just friends. nothing more. if you all want a go at colin, be my guest. now you better go back to work or i'll tell on you," shayna joked, hoping no one took her words for real cos she really wanted colin to be hers.

by lunchtime, almost the nurses from the ward knew about shayna and colin's claim to innocence. gossip was all around. just then lila came into the ward for her afternoon shift. she noticed everyone was talking their usual giggly tone and knew somethign juicy was up.

"what's the new gossip in town?" lila asked.
"oh. colin and shayna aren't going as a couple. they are just friends," katy said.
"yes, and shayna even said that if anyone wants to go out with colin they can try. yeah right if anyone wants to try! colin is obviously into shayna and only shayna," another nurse commented.

"i'll take on that challenge," lila said, beaming with pride.
"you?!" everyone chorused.
"ya! why not?" lila asked.
"good luck then," katy said, going back to her duties but giggling with her friends.

lila smirked. she needed a plan to get to colin. but first, she needed to find out when he's coming in with colby for another appointment.

meanwhile in shayna's office, her phone beeped. it was a message. she placed her pen down and picked up her phone.

"one message received," it read. shayna smiled and opened it.
"how are you doing? just wanted to tell you that i miss you. take care of yourself. love from colin."

shayna beamed. she replied, "i'm alright. busy with work. but not busy enough to forget you. have a good day too."

sometimes all it takes is a 5 cents message to make her day. this was one of the times.
