Confession Time

Shayna had to transfer a bus when her good friend somehow changed meeting venues at the last minute. They were now meeting at this Italian restaurant at some uptown district. Shayna almost wanted to murder her friend. Why can't they just meet somewhere more convienient than going all the way to some posh restaurant?
"What's with the sudden change of venue?" shayna asked as se sat down opposite her friend.
"well... i..." alyssa tried to explain but then from behind her a familair man took his seat beside her. what was he doing here?
"since when tyler became part of our meetings?" shayna asked, the words almost not able to come out from her mouth.
"well shayna, i have been meaning to tell you but ty and i have... have been seeing each other... for some time," alyssa finally fessed up.

"WHAT?!" shayna gasped, 'thank you for the surprise!" Shayna was not sure wether she was surprised or just pissed off that her best friend didn't tell her about it.
"we were hoping to tell you when you and colin... you know..." tyler butted in.
shayna just kept silent. she couldn't do anything if alyssa finds tyler cute or charming neough to date him. tho alyssa was her good friend but she can't dictate anything that she does with her life.
"well, i can't say anything now right? you two just turned a blind spot on me," shayna commented, taking a drink of water.
"sorry about that shayna. it was just that you had so much to deal with that i cannot bear for you to have another shock," alyssa explained, "but we do have one more thing..."

before shayna could ask what it was, colin started walking towards their table.
"oh my god. you two are not serious," shayna commented.
"hey ty, hey alyssa," colin said. then when he looked at shayna, his smile just went brighter and brighter.
"hey shayna." those words just sounded so perfect in his mouth. the tone, the volume. but shayna could not bring herself to melt there and then. it would prove her weak and succumbing to colin once again and she could not be hurt again.
"hey," that was all that cam out of her mouth.

the whole dinner was quite awkward for shayna. although tyler and alyssa kept talking about how they met t the party and they didn't know that their good friends actually got to know each other first. shayna was just fiddling with her soup and her main course... nothing could be ingested in her body right now. colin was watching her, she could sense it. she would want to lift her head up to see his darling eyes locked on her. neither would she want to spoil the happy moment for her best friend whom seemed so happy with colin's best friend.

"... and i'm glad that we finally met each other. tyler's been very good to me," alyssa commented.
"I'm glad i found her too," tyler completed the sentence.
great now both of them are ending ach other sentences. what's next? each other's words? shayna just cringed.
"sorry lys but i have a morning appointment tomorrow. i have to get back home to do some research first," shayna lied. the fact was that she wanted to get out of that awkward situation as soon as she could cos it was just spine chilling and uncomfortable.
"oh alright. let me get the check..." tyler suggsted.
"nono! it's alright. you all continue with the dinner. i'll just make a move," shayna begged. she just needed to be alone now.

"well, let me send you back then. it's late now," colin finally spoke his first sentence in the whole evening.
shayna wanted to decline but her friends beat her to it.
"yeh shayna. it's a good idea. i'd be worried if you took another bus back," alyssa commented.
shayna just looked at her friend then over at colin. she had no choice...

"yeah sure." she didn't know why she said that.

*****

shayna saw colin's car. unmistakable. a mark of his success. sometimes she envied colin. he had everything served up to him on a silver platter. a good career in his father's business, a gorgeous car, a handsome face, a great family... but one thing shayna felt that he lacked was a social life and expeically a relationship. well, maybe she shouldn't start pitying him in the area cos she is being seen as one of the candidates to fulfil his relationship void. she had to get that mindset out.. pronto.

"what are you going standing there for? get in," colin said, interrupting shayna's thoughts. she then realised she had been standing in the middle of the parking lots just dazed.
"oh right," she said, full of embarrassment and then got into the passenger seat of his car. when she sat there, she just had the recollection of what happened when she went to that crazy party. she was here... the same place and they had spent the night together here! same place! gawd. she just ned to erase that out of her mind!
"are you alright?" colin asked, noticing shayna cringing.
"yeah... yeah.. i guess," she replied, trying to hide any symptoms of regret. colin forced a smile and ignited his engine. shayna looked over at him. he somehow knew she was thinking about something... or even worse he knew she was thinking about them! what if he could tell behind her fearful eyes that she wasn't ready to commit into a relationship and that she indeed loved.....

"what song do you wanna listen to?" colin asked, interrupting her thoughts once more.
"oh. the radio would do fine," she replied. fromt hen on she vowed never to say that three word sentence about colin again.
so as colin switched the radio on, slow blues music filled the car... faintly but soothing. shayna wanted to fall asleep but the visions of what happened in this car before just prevented her from nodding off and all she oculd do was to watch the streets and hope she could see a faint sign of her house somewhere so this awkward situation would be over.

"did you receive my message to you?" colin finally asked, "i sent it a couple of times to make sure you got it." shayna was just stumped for words. if she said yes then maybe he would ask why she didn't reply and if she denies everything then she would be so lying.
"yeah. i did. but... i don't know colin. i just can't..." shayna said, she had to force each word out of her mouth. colin just swerved and stopped at the sidewalk. jerking shayna from her seat. thank god she was wearing seat belts.

"can't what? shayna you know i have been thinking about you so much that it just wrecks my brain out! i've been so tormented!" colin shouted, each word just had so much anger and everything.
shayna just sat there and tear-filled but silent. colin's heart just melted there and then. seeing the woman he love cry in front of him. he reached out his hand and gently wiping away her tears.

"i'm sorry shayna. i really am. but you need to know you mean the world to me," colin said.
shayna just looked at him... red eyes and all...
then... what happened was just in slow motioned but yet fast. his lips touched hers gently... softly. skin on skin.
they kissed in the same car. for a long while. :)
