This Is What Happens When Your Precious Daughter Grows Older

"have a good rest now, Ryan. you need to get better so we can go play field soccer," Shayna said as she tucked the boy to bed.
"ok. but you must promise me that you would be around when i wake up."
"alright. I'll be outside doing my work. you can just press this button when you wake up and i'll come look for you."
After Ryan fell asleep, Shayna walked out of the children's ward to take a breather after visiting 5 children. Doing her job isn't very easy. she has to know how to handle difficult requests from the children and also know how to teach them good habits like taking their medication and knowing how to rest at appropriate times.
For example, Ryan has signs of depression and psychosis. He needs constant attention, counselling and medication. Though his problems, Shayna sees a beautiful active boy who enjoys playing games and reading books. His broad smile and bright eyes never cease to bring warmth to Shayna's heart. All she wants is to see this beautiful child get over his mental problems and lead a normal life.

"tired?" a nurse asked.
"yeah. i just need some rest."
"i know how it is. some children are just hard to handle."
"well, all they need is to know that they are loved and cared for," Shayna explained.
"well, you know them best Shayna. But do take care of yourself too. I need to go on my rounds now. See you later."
"yeah. thanks."

as she sat down at her desk, she lay down on her desk and closed her eyes to rest. suddenly her phone started to vibrate.
"argh who can that be?" she asked herself.
'One Message Received.'
She opened it and then all it said was.. 'shayna. just wanted you to know i miss you. from colin.'
she clicked 'reply' and was about to type a message when her dad came to visit her.
"hey precious. busy?" he asked.

"no. just tired. had a busy day papa?"
"a little. sometimes these kids just gets on my nerves. they don't take their medication properly and always gives me a hard time. reminds me of you when you were young." Mr. Fong chuckled.
"next time... when you have a problem with the kids, you know your counsellor daughter is always around to provide you with assistance."
"i know. it's just that i don't want to trouble you with my problems when you already have your own."

at that time, shayna's phone rang. it was alyssa inviting her to dinner that night.
"alright. we'll meet at your workplace at seven. see you then." shayna replied.
"not coming back for dinner again?" Mr. Fong asked.
"sorry papa. i will go back for dinner tomorrow alright?"
"that's what happens when your precious daughter grows older." he sighed.
